Australia Smokey The Bear Is Evil And Needs To Retire!!!!

One of the earliest discussion topics here on the JohnJacobH Blog has been about Wildfires and Tree Worship and the generally insane attitude of contemporary culture toward the wilderness and even ungroomed undergrowth in urban areas.

There is a separate category for these posts:

There is the excellent post Nine Myths About Forest Fires:

And yet, the annual damage from monster fires increases.

Australia is the latest to learn the horrific consequences of misplaced environmental compassion:

Tantalizing Excerpt:

Bushfire expert David Packham at Melbourne’s Monash University has blamed green groups, saying their opposition to controlled clearance in forests known as burn-offs had allowed leaves, bark and dead wood to build up for decades, providing fuel for the fires.

“Elements of the (green) movement are behaving like eco-terrorists, waging war against proscribed burning and fuel management,” Packham, a former supervisor at the government-run Bureau of Meteorology, told The Australian newspaper.

Sydney Morning Herald columnist Miranda Devine also railed against “greenies,” who she said had stopped politicians and bureaucrats from taking steps to reduce the fire hazard with their insistence that forests remain pristine.

“If politicians are intent on whipping up a lynch mob to divert attention from their own culpability, it is not arsonists who should be hanging from the lamp-posts but greenies,” she wrote.

Homemade Guns Save Villagers In Bangadi,Congo

It is inaccurate to call these “homemade” guns.

They are really craftsmen or artisan or even jobshop guns. Do they have the fit and finish or capacity of even the crudest Western jobshop gun? Probably not.

Do they do the job required of them? Apparently so.

Tantalizing Excerpt:

Jules Zunga, who says he’s been making guns for nearly 50 years, shapes the stock of a shotgun as he works in Bangadi, about 40 km (25 miles) from Congo’s border with Sudan, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009. In this remote northeastern corner of Congo nearly 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) from the capital, the residents of Bangadi have successfully driven off two attacks by the Ugandan rebels who have killed at least 900 people since Christmas.

Update To The Update On the Michael Bane Gunsafe Saga

Michael Bane has apparently achieved closure on the Cannon Gunsafe debacle.

While I have many thoughts on the topic of gunsafes and their deployment and use, if I talked publicly about those thoughts I would have to resort to permanent rendition for anyone who overheard.

Tantalizing Excerpt:

Fair question…why did I choose Liberty Safes?

It’s one of those “wisdom of crowds”…things. Out of the hundreds of emails I received in the wake of the problems I had with my Cannon Safe, more of you guys overwhelmingly recommended Liberty Safes than any other brand. It wasn’t even close, either. At least one person who had had trouble initially with his Liberty lock still unconditionally recommended Liberty because of the high quality of their customer service, “and I called ’em some ugly names, too!”

Yes, It Is True! GoodCopNews!

Truthfully, I enjoy a salacious evil cop story as much as the next guy.

But I admit I am a little surprised at the amount of traffic my little post from last August about the demise of the BadCopNews Website has generated in the ensuing months.

It is my #1 most frequently viewed post even with some built in fudge factor for the rather quirky WordPress Click Counter.

What makes this a paradox is the simple fact some of the most passionate knowledgable advocates for liberty, the 2nd Amendment and a Constitutional Republic just happen to be……surprise!—- Ex Cops.

So, in the interest of fair, balanced, precise and accurate reportage I list here four of the best Ex Cop Liberty Advocates. (With more to be added as they come to my attention).

Norm Stamper is featured in the Reason Youtube Video. He reviews the horror of the War On Drugs, which as 2nd Amendment Activists have learned to their alarm,is actually a War On The Constitution and the Bill Of Rights.

Stamper is a cop who saw it all during his 34 years on active duty. As Police Chief of Seattle from 1994 through 2000, he was in charge during violent World Trade Organization protests in the Emerald City.

Heartland USA is the website of Greg Evenson, a former Kansas State Trooper who is very outspoken about the implications of Martial Law and the War On Terror.

Greg Evenson is an award winning Kansas Lawman and former Kansas State Trooper.
He is author of The Sovereignty Papers and has completed two inspirational singing CD’s “Hymns from the Heartland” and “After the Storm.”

You may visit his website at to get your copies of this and other materials offered by Greg. See the NWV central advertising banners for ordering information, also. Greg may be reached at his website on the Radio page for a scheduled speaking or concert date as well.

The Shootist Website is home to Gordon Hutchinson who has conducted an in depth study of the outrageous gun confiscations in Post Katrina New Orleans.

Author: “THE GREAT NEW ORLEANS GUN GRAB” (with Todd Masson), an expose’ of the anarchy and outrageous behavior of civil authorities who confiscated thousands of guns from law-abiding citizens in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Also the author of “THE QUEST AND THE QUARRY”–a southern novel of the hunt. Firearms columnist for LOUISIANA, NORTH & SOUTH CAROLINA, and MISSISSIPPI SPORTSMAN.

LawDog’s Commentary about Lon Horiuchi:

Update #1!

I cannot believe I left Sheriff Richard Mack off this list!

Sheriff Richard Mack was the first sheriff in America to file against the Brady Bill. Over the next several years he began looking beyond that one unconstitutional measure to realize that all of the rights of Americans were at risk.

To protect our rights he decided to speak out, calling all law enforcement officers to their duty. That duty will always remain to uphold the Constitution and secure the rights of ordinary Americans against all aggressors, especially their own government.

Phthalates?? Book Burning By Another Name?

Phthalates…….yeah, I have never heard the word before either.

But apparently they are everywhere, as in Kydex Holsters, and, who knows? maybe polymer receiver pistols etc.

Now I have always been one of the few who cheerfully predicted the revolution would not start because of some Sweeping Cosmic Principle Of Sovereign Liberty and Freedom, but because of something completely inane and unexpected, like, well, seatbelt laws.

Phthalates may be just the ticket. They are apparently EVERYWHERE.

For Nanny State Kakistocrats phtalates are the mother load if the goal is maximum chaos for minimum effort.

Just ban phthalates and the modern world will instantly collapse around your ears.

And so they, the Kakistocrats, have begun to ban Phthalates, as always, for the chiiiiildren of We, the People.

The National Association of Manufacturers reports an entire inventory of children’s toys now in the distribution pipeline as well as all future toys must be phthalate free based on the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office press release of Friday, February 6th.

But that is only the beginning. Based on the precedent thus established books could somehow be sucked into the morass.

And then, apparently, the dominos will begin to fall in all directions. ATV dirt bike parts, helmets….who knows?

Here are some links and quotes, you guys figure it out, I have to go hang some window curtains this afternoon.

The tantalizing book thing excerpt:

This announcement is good news for publishers, but it still leaves some gray areas. State attorneys general, for example, could still prosecute companies for violations of the Act, even though the CPSC itself has said it won’t take action. In addition, there is no clear definition of what an “ordinary” book is. Most experts interpret the term as meaning ink-on-paper or ink-on-board books, but what about books that are bound with metal staples, which could contain lead? Finally, it seems to put libraries’ older holdings back in the spotlight, raising the question of what they should do with books printed before 1985; the latest announcement suggests they could be prosecuted or fined for lending those out.

Connecticut Attorney General Press Release Excerpt:

Press Release
Attorney General Praises Decision Blocking Manufacturers From Allowing Sale Of Toxic Toys

“As we vigorously argued in our legal brief, the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act is clear — toys cannot be manufactured or sold after implementation of the law.

“Today’s decision is a public health victory, particularly for our children, putting manufacturers on notice about their urgent responsibilities to consumers. My office will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that this phthalate ban is enforced.”

This Day In History: February 6,1900

David Codrea is still under the weather, so I get to do THIS DAY IN HISTORY again!!

The Boer War:

The Boers, only some 1,200 in number, were led by Viljoen in a spirited defence of Val Krantz, while the Boer rifle and artillery fire built up from the surrounding hills.

At dawn on 6th February 1900 the Boer artillery began a heavy bombardment with guns that had been brought up during the night.

Lyttelton and other generals urged Buller to commit more troops and expand the position by attacking Doorn Kloof. A council of war was held but Buller could not be persuaded to take the risk. On the Thursday night the operation was abandoned and the British troops withdrew across the Tugela River, ending the battle known as Val Krantz.

The British suffered 400 casualties and Buller attracted the nicknames of “the Tugela Ferryman” and “Sir Reverse Buller.”

Background Information:

The Boer War was a serious jolt for the British Army.

At the outbreak of the war British tactics were appropriate for the use of single shot firearms, fired in volleys controlled by company and battalion officers; the troops fighting in close order. The need for tight formations had been emphasised time and again in colonial fighting. In the Zulu and Sudan Wars overwhelming enemy numbers armed principally with stabbing weapons were easily kept at a distance by such tactics; but, as at Isandlwana, would overrun a loosely formed force. These tactics had to be entirely rethought in battle against the Boers armed with modern weapons.

In the months before hostilities the Boer commandant general, General Joubert, bought 30,000 Mauser magazine rifles and a number of modern field guns and automatic weapons from the German armaments manufacturer Krupp and the French firm Creusot.

The commandoes, without formal discipline, welded into a fighting force through a strong sense of community and dislike for the British. Field Cornets led burghers by personal influence not through any military code.

The Boers did not adopt military formation in battle, instinctively fighting from whatever cover there might be. The preponderance were countrymen, running their farms from the back of a pony with a rifle in one hand.

These rural Boers brought a life time of marksmanship to the war, an important edge, further exploited by Joubert’s consignment of magazine rifles. Viljoen is said to have coined the aphorism “Through God and the Mauser”. With strong fieldcraft skills and high mobility the Boers were natural mounted infantry.

The urban burghers and foreign volunteers readily adopted the fighting methods of the rest of the army.

The Feisty New Hampshire HCR 6

Those feisty folks in New Hampshire never rest. HCR 6 essentially reads the riot act to the Imperial Feral Government. Godspeed guys!

Tantalizing Excerpt:

That any Act by the Congress of the United States, Executive Order of the President of the United States of America or Judicial Order by the Judicatories of the United States of America which assumes a power not delegated to the government of United States of America by the Constitution for the United States of America and which serves to diminish the liberty of the any of the several States or their citizens shall constitute a nullification of the Constitution for the United States of America by the government of the United States of America. Acts which would cause such a nullification include, but are not limited to:

I. Establishing martial law or a state of emergency within one of the States comprising the United States of America without the consent of the legislature of that State.

New Hampshire truly sets a high standard for the rest of the United States.

Tantalizing Description:

Podcast Converter For Your Truck! You Need One Of These!

If you are like me, you are not about to blow a couple of hundred bucks for something called an IPOD and then walk around with some little hearing aid sized headphones to listen to the latest, greatest Podcast of GUNTALK.

However, thanks to the tutelage of a nearby 14 year old, I learned it is possible to buy a gadget called an MP3 Player for $15.00 dollars (yes, that is in US Currency) which will store 1 GB of Podcasts.

Then, if your truck has authentic Neanderthal Technology, (as mine blessedly does) you can blow another $10.00 dollars (US) to buy something called a cassette converter (see picture) which will allow you to listen to the MP3 player over the truck speakers through the cassette player.

Yes! It really is that simple!

For you snooty types, there is also a means to bypass your CD Player and convert MP3 files into analog signals through your speakers, but it costs more and is slightly more complicated to install.

For you real snooty types, your late model vehicle is already equipped to link to MP3 or IPOD type players from the factory so you can just skip this entire discussion.

Like I really care, my Neanderthal Technology Cassette Player has finally paid off! (Good thing I got rid of that eight track when I had a chance!)

Now, you may wonder, exactly how many hours of GUNTALK fit in 1 GB of MP3 Player?

Well… it turns out each 1 hour segment of GUNTALK is 10 MB. So if you rush to GOOGLE “how many MB in a GB?” you will discover you can download 100 HOURS of GUNTALK!

Yes! The entire GUNTALK archive dating back to 2006 can fit into a gizmo the size of a cigarette lighter with some Michael Bane Podcasts thrown in for good measure to bring you nearly endless audio enjoyment as you drive around your daily rabbit trails!

Never be annoyed by LIEberal Over-The-Air Analog Media Broadcasts again!

Finally, I can also realize a lifelong dream to hear Gregorian Chants over my car radio as I make my rounds in my little corner of the world.

Does it get any better than this? I think not!

Get yours today!
