Good Trigger Discipline circa 1961

MattelGunHandle6

Seven year old Child Actor Bill Mumy put all the usual Hollywood ignorami to shame in this 1961 Mattel Commercial when he demonstrated excellent pistol handling and trigger discipline! Watch the Youtube video carefully. The little tyke fires the pistol and makes a conscious effort to keep his finger out of the trigger guard.

We discussed normal Hollyweird weapon proficiency in the Tom Selleck kerfuffle of 2011.

Tantalizing Excerpt:

Woodchuck, also known as groundhog, should be handled in accordance with the general rules for game in the field. The blood should be drained, and the entrails removed and the body cavity wiped clean. When hung for 48 hours, they are ready to the skinned and cooked.

Woodchuck meat is dark, but mild flavored and tender. It does not require soaking; however, many people like to soak it overnight in salt water. If the woodchuck is caught just before he begins his winter sleep, there is an insulating fat layer under the skin. Remove excess fat. remove 7 to 9 “kernels” (scent glands) in the small of the back and under the forearms. Parboil the meat of older animals; cook by recipes calling for chicken or rabbit.

North Carolina State University Rifle Team

Yes, there really are college level Rifle Teams! Yes, they really do offer college athletic scholarships!
Perhaps the day will come when it will be possible to watch them compete on the 2nd Amendment channel. (right next to the golf channel!)

Tantalizing excerpt:

Raleigh, N.C. — Deep inside the basement of Reynolds Coliseum, North Carolina State student-athletes are working on their shooting – rifle shooting.

NC State has the only fully-sanctioned, scholarship-level rifle-shooting team in the ACC. They are also fully coed with men and women competing against each other on a truly level playing field.

“If you look at the NCAA Championships, you’ll see roughly half men, half women,” said head coach Keith Miller. “Two years ago, TCU won the championship with an all-women’s team. First time that had ever happened.”

They may be the best team in the ACC no one has ever heard of – even on their own campus.

Skinny Moose explains Mincemeat Pie over on his blog:

Tantalizing Excerpt:

With plenty of venison in the house what to make for Christmas? I knew it would have to have venison in it so that’s when I decided to try to make a Mincemeat Pie for Christmas.
Never heard of mincemeat? Well it is an old pie that is older than our country, and probably was made by some of the first settlers to travel over from England.

Mincemeat developed as a way of preserving meat without salting or smoking some 500 years ago in England, where mince pies are still considered an essential accompaniment to holiday dinners just like the traditional plum pudding. This pie is a remnant of a medieval tradition of spiced meat dishes, usually minced mutton, that have survived because of its association with Christmas. This pies have also been known as Christmas Pies. Mince pie as part of the Christmas table had long been an English custom.

Texas Tall Tale (With Dynamite!)

There was a time I would have taken this type of story with a grain of salt.

But then my buddies brother went up into the mountains to excavate a basement under his wife’s cabin retreat.

Yes, it did involve dynamite. Yes, hijinks ensued.

Seems when some people get around dynamite the crazy switch goes on in their brain.

So if this story is not exactly true, it should be, and it probably resembles something that actually happened.

A Texas Tall Tale as told by a Tall Texan.

Enjoy….
